STA-BIL® Celebrates 25th Anniversary Lawn Mower Racing Championships With 80 MPH Weapons Of Grass Destruction

Aug. 29, 2017 (Northbrook, Ill.) – As Americans celebrate the end of summer this Labor Day weekend, U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) lawn mower racers from across the country will quench their need for speed on their tricked out weapons of grass destruction. They’ll rev up their engines and hit the gas reaching up to 80 mph as they take the turf to compete in the 25th Anniversary STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Championship, Saturday, Sept. 2 at the River Bottom Raceway in Carlisle, Iowa.

The silver anniversary national “mow down showdown” will feature 10 classes of sod slingers racing in deck-to-deck bladeless competition for trophies, glory and bragging rights. Legends of the lawn from the Oklahoma Mower Racers, North American Society of Grass Racers & Sod Slingers (NASGRASS), Dixie Outlaws, Kick Ya Grass Racers, Carolina Lawn Mower Racing Association, American Heartland Mower Racers, Lone Star Mower Racers, Arkansas Turf Busters and the Mason Dixon Mower Mowlisha are expected to converge on the 10 mile track located 10 miles outside of Des Moines. Past national champions include Turfinator, Sodzilla, Ace of Blades and Mowdacious.

“While summer winds down, lawn mower racers are powering up to kick grass,” quipped Bruce Kaufman, “Mr. Mow It All” and USLMRA founder and president. “For 25 years, I’ve seen folks from every walk of life drive up to 12 hours, to race for 20 minutes on a dirt track for no money only to get bugs stuck in their teeth. It is truly a glorious pursuit.”

Founded on April 1, 1992, the USLMRA sanctions and presents organized lawn mower racing across America including the 18-race STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series and a network of 50 Local Chapters and Affiliated Clubs hosting more than 250 sanctioned races nationwide every year. STA-BIL lawn mower racers compete in 10 classes, with all cutting blades removed, for trophies, points, and bragging rights. The USLMRA also hosts the National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame at Miller Lawn and Power in Marion, Ohio.

USLMRA sponsors include STA-BIL, America’s #1 fuel stabilizer, K&N Filters and m.e. Miller Tire Co.
